Hi all,

Doens anyone knows the current situation regarding crossing the border with a vehicle older than 5 years?

NCR,

In mid May it was definately possible to cross at Diama in a car older than 5 years without a carnet. No bribe was paid at customs, although it was necessary to buy a temporary import permit. The car trader I was with also mentioned he had done this trip more than ten times since the "5 year law" was introduced without a carnet. On some occasions it was necessary to bribe, on others it was unnecessary. I guess it depends on your luck with the customs officer.

I have also crossed with a bike older than 5 years - again no carnet required.
