engine oil in Botswana?

I am in Maun now, just found out my bike uses a lot of engine oil all of a sudden... so I do not have enough oil to get to South Africa (where I can buy for sure) after a tour through Namibia.
The is one shop which might have some, but that opens on monday.

Does anyone know whether I could get oil here, or anywhere else in Botswana? Just hoping I don't have to make a detour to South Africa!

Thanks in advance!

If you can't find it in the shops attached to fuel stations in Maun, worth trying Tavern Enterprises at GPS: S20.013057 E23.431892 run by Mike Nel (email: tavern@orange.net.bw, tel: 680 0027, cell: 71362732 / 72299083 - he runs a good workshop.

okay, the big parts/oil shop (Rileys Garage, center of town) didn't have anything either for 4-stroke bikes.

Got to 'Power Serv', some Yamaha shop near the coordinatees/shop mentioned above.
They had semi (Motul) and full synthetic (Yamalube).

Movinghouse: thanks for your reply, didn't go there but found it at their neighbours! ;-)

What bike is it ???

In Africa, most people just use ANY 4-stroke Oil. I used stuff from the petrol stations with no problems at all.

The only reason that people use Motorcycle specific oil is because the car stuff 'Can' have friction modifiers in them which can cause your clutch to slip.

However, they are only usually in the expensive oils which I doubt you will find in Botswana anyway.

Any oil is better than NO oil... :rolleyes2:

Try calling Mac at McKenzie 4x4 hire. He has been in the repair business in Maun for years.

Africa Twin... guess that tractor can handle any oil :-)

But indeed, the friction modifiers are the thing to worry about.
And maybe the reason why we all buy expensive oil although it is maybe not needed!

Hi,

Do you think it would be possible to get tyres for a GS in Maun?? Any motorcycle shop that could order them??

Thanks

Cheers

Jose
