Where to stay for a while in Dakar.

Hello everyone, I could do with some options please. I am about to leave Morocco heading south for Dakar. My plan once I am there is to work out where to go next as at the moment I haven,t thought about a route. Where do people stay? It would be good to stay somewhere where there are other travellers, I could do with spending a few days just talking with people and learning some things.

I have travelled before but this is the first time past Morocco. Very good fun but everyday is a school day! Any info or tips will be greatly appreciated.

You could try Zebrabar about 20km South of St Louis Senegal . Great place to chill out . Good luck with your plans .

Cheers guys.

Zebra bar I am definitely going to. They allowed my to use their address for my paper work, so I have to go and say thank you.

The other one. Hmm I can,t seem to enter the co-ordinates into the garmin. So i am sure I am doing something wrong. What format are those, I think my sat nav uses degrees, minutes, seconds. For example it is showing; N 23 45.873 and W015 54.427 at the moment.

You know a big part of this trip is the learning, there are times when I am just lost! hahahah.

Hi there,

A great, cheap place to spend some time in Dakar is the CVD, " le Club de Voile de Dakar ", located about 5 or 6 kms on the beach south of the main harbour, in the area called " Baie de Hann". It is actually Dakar´s marina and that is where all boaties crossing the Atlantic or sailing from Europe stop. You can camp or get one of their cheap rooms and it is very safe. There is a great bar on the premises with an ocean view. Food is available from stalls across the street or they will bring it up to you. Hands down the best place I am aware of in Dakar.
Hope that helps.

Levelo.

Thanks levelo. That sounds good, I used to enjoy sailing myself. I have lived by the sea most of my life. A common intrest will be good to kick start conversation.

The problem seems to be 14.754007, -17.497237 is Degrees. decimal degrees and your Sat Nav is set to or requires Degrees Minutes. decimal minutes. The solution is if possible reset your Sat Nav to correct format or use some online site like.
Convert Latitude / Longitude in Degrees/Minutes/Seconds to/from Decimal (FCC) USA

So I have reached Dakar, I think I will stay a few days. I need food, rest and a chance to regroup. I am at le Club de Voile de Dakar. Levelo you have a pm.

I can only endorse Levelos recommendation. Very chilled out place, a haven from the chaos that seems to be the rest of the city.
