Driving to Sierra Leone

Hi there,

A group of us (4 Landcruisers) are driving from the UK to Sierra Leone (Freetown). Has anyone got a preferred route for this?

Thanks

Jonathan

Dear Jonathan

Greetings again, I will try to call you shortly. As mentioned getting to Senegal will be the simple part. Here is a useful map for the rest of the journey:

According to this map the best route would be Tambacounda - Medina Gounas - Koundara - Labe - Mamou - Kindia - Forcariah - (Pamelap) - Port Loko - Masiaka - Freetown

In my opinion don't even think about making a short cut through Guinea Bissau... the coastal route looks attractive on the map but I think in practice you will spend more time pulling stuck cars out the mud than actually driving (rainy season is starting).

I'm not sure whether in Senegal it could be quicker/ easier to head south through Port Louis and Dakar, or east and down through Matam (see a Senegal map). I will make enquiries once I reach there.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for getting in touch again.

Is this the route that you are going to take?

How are the preparations going?

Let's speak when you get a moment.

Jonathan
