Crossing from Cameroon to Congo by bike

Hi,

I am looking for the best route to cross the border from Cameroon to Congo by motorbike, any suggestions?

In 1 month Playmobil and I will leave from Barcelona to Cape Town trough the Westside. Any advices are very welcome.

Thanks!

Hi,

It doesn't really answer your question, but most people cross into Gabon from Cameroon and then onto the Congos. There are a few reasons, but primarily Gabon is quite a nice country and definitely worth visiting.

As for the roads directly into the Congo, I was under the impression from 4x4'ers I met in Brazza that the road(s) were very tough slogging for vehicles and thus most likely tough going on bikes. Weather, wet or dry season, also has a big impact on many routes in general.

Once you get into Gabon, you have the choice to depart on the eastern route through Franceville or the southern route. Franceville is an interesting route, a bit sandy at times but there is an interesting national park to cross through. Happy riding.

Nearly all Overlanders drive through Gabon. Nearly all of them reports that it is really beautiful and one of the highlights.

I had searched for something with more thrill: a less travelled way, less known, less (web) explored - more adventurous.

We did it that way:

It is also nice - when you not know what you will see, not know if you can cross there.

You will find more detailed maps with our route somewhere in our blog: Trans-Africa

We had also rain as we cross there - with a bike you had to wait until it is dry again. Also in a car, if we had snow chains - i guess we would have mounted them. It was a lot of drifting, a lot of fun...

Unfortunately our coleman cooker stop working in the pink marked area - and we had to go faster through that area as planned.
