Carte Rose insurance cost & validity in Cameroon

I'm currently in Cameroon trying to organise 3rd party bike insurance. Carte Rose insurance should cover us for Cameroon, Gabon and Congo.

Several Insurance shops have said they can provide Carte Rose cover, but the minimum period for a moto is 12 months and costs are around 45,000 XAF (100USD). This is about twice what I was expecting to pay.

Does this sound correct? Are you able to get 1 or 2 months cover only. And can anyone recommend an agency in Youande?

Many thanks

Ok, I've found insurance in cameroon for 2 months for 32000 cfa.

The confusion is that there is 2 types of carte rose insurance, one for locals and one for international travellers. They also cover different countries. You want international carte rose. If in doubt ask them to phone head office

Why they have 2 different type of insurance with the same name boggles my mind

Sailing Yogi,

If you are in Buea, is there any way you could find out the latest price for a Nigerian visa from their consulate there? Indeed, if they are still issuing visas there?

Would sure appreciate it!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
