Carnet needed for Ghana or Nigeria?

Hi, I know this has been covered many times but I cant find anything really up to date and dont trust what embassies say.

We are leaving for a trip ending in Nigeria, starting around mid November 2005.

It looks like the carnet will end up costing around £800 so buying passes on the borders would still work out much cheaper.

I am pretty sure we dont need a carnet for anywhere on route either to enter those countries or to get a visa. EXCEPT I dont know what the latest word is for Nigeria or Ghana.

Thanks peoples
I posted this on the sharah travel bit too but didnt actually know where Ghana fits in! (sub or sahara?)

Pete

Hi,

I dont know, why you do not want to take a Carnet. it costs 150 euro a year (in germany) and it is worth it.
We needed it on our trip down at the westcoast and in the rest of Africa in nearly every country.
we are now in ethiopia and heading to yemen.

new infos at our homepage under "reisetagebuch"

good luck!!

Hi Raleva,

In the UK for a car of only £5000, you end up paying around 1500 Euros for a carnet. Or you have to find 150% of the value of the car and leave that in a bank somewhere. But I have decided to get one anyway as I think we have no choice if we want to visit Nigeria and Ghana.

Hope your having a great trip.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
