Carnet for Senegal

With a car less than 5 years old, do you need a carnet for travelling through Senegal?
I am confused - can anyone enlighten me please!

How about a car over 5 years old? Is it worth paying for a Carnet or am I still going to get hassled into paying a bung to get through Rosso?

Without a Carnet however much you offer - you will not get into Senegal I am told.

Hi . Well ,.it deppends on your bargaining abilitties. Its definitely possible crossing Diama (100kms west of Rosso) into Senegal by paying an ammount beetween 50 to 150 Euros.

My last 3 times were
:
70Euros for 1 Land Rover 109
50-60 Euros for 1 Honda XL600
70 Euros for 1 Defender 90

everybody does it . Everybode knows it and they do expect you to pay .

Good luck
Javier

Hi,

Just got my Carnet from the RAC - well paid for it. Cost me £165 plus £17.50 for a £4500 bank guarntee.

That is very cheap, We are travelling to Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea, Guinea Bissau and Gambia. I will be driving back also. So the cost is very cheap in reality.

Yours

Andy

P.S. I am looking forward to a in Churchills

Hi . Well .The way to Diama (115 kilometres of really bad (but beautifull) track starts from approx 900 metres before the Rosso customs (I think Its a yellow petrol Station , doesnt it ?) . Well I guess that any dirt road to the right ... will end up in the Diama (dam) track. Just -by any way - don't end up in Rosso withtout a carnet. Diamma is far better (even if that means paying just a little bit more) .

Good luck
Javier
