carnet for senegal

can anyone shed any light on the current situation with regards to carnets for senegal? I know that you are supposed to have one for a vehicle over 5 years old, but does anyone care, can you just get your passport stamped at the border, or are they not even that bothered, can you blagg it? Any info would be handy

cheers

Hi,

They bother!
Last November I tried enter coming from Mali (Diboli) and they did not wanted to let me in. After a brief negociation with the costums they eventually granted a laissez-passez of just 3 days. That was enough to get me to S.Louis and out to Mauritania.

Good luck,
José
