crossing Congo all the way

Hello,

Do you think there is a possibility to cross the Democratic Republic of Congo all the way from north to south (Lubumbashi) in a Nissan Patrol?
Is there anybody who made it or heard of somebody who tried it recently?

Remo<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>I am travelling from England to Tanzania on BMW F650 and am currently in Yaounde,Cameroon.Democratic Rebublic Of Congo consular would'nt issue me a visa on grounds of safety,to enable me to cross to Uganda.Congo Brazaville embassy were happy to let me cross but its too far out of my way.Am now heading to Sudan embassy in Bangiu to discuss possibility of crossing to Uganda.

Hi, I was in Zaire in 1996 and travelling around then was difficult, the roads are the worst I have seen in Africa and I don't think you will make it in the rainy season at all, I had a Nissan Patrol at the time, piece of shit off road compared to a Landrover 110, going further south than Uvira on the Northern tip of Lake Tanganyika at that time was not recommended due to the civil unrest, what that actually meant was that any foreigner would have been killed, land mines were a constant problem, I was there for 6 months working with Rwandan refugees, the North of Zaire at that time was quite stable so crossing from the North and exiting to Uganda might not prove too problematic, though having said that there was always gun fire and explosions every night in Goma and what ever you do do not drive at night, there are road blocks and they will shoot first and ask questions latter. Some Dutch overlanders were killed near us, we had white vehicles with UN on but even then one of my co workers had to run for his life, his African drivers was shot dead. Regards Chris Kinsey
