Cape Town to London

Get a cheap flight to London, buy a cheap car, and drive it home on the London to Cape Town Rally...check out the route at The Endurance Rally Association. (The Endurance Rally Association - Home ).

You will have big problems trying to get throught the Sudan, even if you get a visa...you honestly thinking you could get your bike through Dharfur? Why go to Kenya, (hardly a challenge getting that far, dead easy, pre-war vintage cars have breezed it)...so, why not straight up the west-side?

hi .
best of luck with your trip.
there is plenty of info on doing this trip on the HUBB, search around a bit first as i would say most of your questions are already answered there .
you should contact a guy called Jim who is a HUBB regular, he lives in cape town , so not too far from you and he has good expereince doing this trip . he is very helpful.
sudan can be a bit tricky. I got my visa in Addis Ababa , you might be able to get yours in SA.
there is a guy called Midhat Mahir who is a good contact in Khartoum and well tried and trusted. again you will get his info on the HUBB.

Cape to London

Hi! Sound interesting and a lot like what I initially wanted to do. Recently had a spill so my trip will only commence end of Jan 2010. Starting from the Netherlands though and riding back to SA. Have a look at One ball One continent

They're right about the Sudan, but did not even mention CAR - check out travel guides' most recent info. Also look at the US & British Gov travel advisories: even with more than just a pinch of salt, you may realise that CAR is not so good at the moment. Same would go for northern DRC if you considered going from Kenya through Uganda & DRC to Cameroon.

In the end, you've got to do what you've got to do, so follow your dream! Just do the research and put away enough time and money for the worst case scenario - only good research will give an indication of what that can be.

On the abovementioned blog, I show my planned route, which should be adventurous without going to insane - my time is not unlimited and I do have a family, so my situation may be a lot different from yours. Let us know when you're planning to do this. PM me your contact number, then we can talk - I'm in JHB.

Good luck & keep posting!

Hi. Good challenge. When do you think you are going to start the trip? Perhaps we can ride together for a while from Cape Town to Nairobi. I am thinking about november/december. I will keep my bike in Nairobi till I have more time, more time and more Malarone.

Watch out for CAR, possibly avoid Guinea, Guinea Bissau and Liberia.

Safe travels, Sam.
