Liechtenstein people can't get visa for Ehtiopia in Nairobi!?

Hi all

We have some friends here who are from Liechtenstein and they are trying to get an Ethiopian visa here in Nairobi, but the Ethiopian embassy says they don't issue visas for people from Liechtenstein.

They told them to go to the Ethiopian embassy in their home country, but there is no Ethiopian embassy in Liechtenstein! The Ethiopian embassy in Switzerland tells them they are not responsible, which normally they would be.

What do they do? Is there any Liechtenstenian out there who has managed to get into Ethiopia from Kenya?!

Please help them - they are stuck!

Cheers
Steve

Do you have a Liechtensteinian (sp?) embassy in Nairobi? Or do the Suisse in Nairobi take care of you?

Check with them I'd say.

Insist but stay friendly.

Hey,

we've tried the swiss embassy...the weren't very helpfull. We are are in touch with immigration in Addis, hoping to solve the issue that way. But if everything fails, we'll check with the swiss once more to make them help us.

cheers, robin

Don't have any magic answers other than persisting, seeing if any other embassies will help. Other than Embassies, are there any honarary consuls, these tend to be expats now living there who are well connected. Again you might need to try other European countries and see if someone could help. Other things that may be an option: if you were flying in, would you have to get a visa in advance or would it be issued at the airport. If it's that latter, it might be a way of getting a visa, would need to make sure its multi entry. Alternatively southern Sudan may be feasible now, I know things have improved and have read about the odd traveller driving through that way but think its still probably going to be quite hard. Another options would be to see if you can put on a boat from somewhere like Mombassa to Yemen or Oman.

Well, thank for your suggestions. Even IF we would fly home and apply for a visa in Switzerland, they would only grant it if we fly in! No other way.

Luckily both of us are citizen of another country as well. That means lots of paperwork and some more weeks of waiting. But in the end we'll get to Ethiopia - even if they don't want us!

Thanks guys!

wow, that's a crazy story.

can't you get them at the border? we just went through and they were quite friendly - especially the custom guy for the carnet. his desk and door windows are stamped with overlanders stickers everywhere....usually a good sign...

it is a long way to go back to Nairobi though...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
