Cape Town to London - Advice please

Hello. At the end of the year I plan on riding from Cape Town to London. I will (hopefully) be traveling through east africa until i get to Ethiopia. Because of the S### storm in Egypt at the moment, and the mental price of the carnet I want to fly my bike to Nigeria or Ghana and continue on up the west coast. Has anyone done this or used airfreight in these parts of Africa? My original plan was to ride London to Cape Town, but due to a few reasons, like weather im changing my mind. I will also get to avoid Angola and the non-existant visa system they have. ta

Geat post! My partner and I will be heading North up the East side of Africa at some point next year so it's great to see someone else going that route! (Seems the N-S route is far more popular!) It'll be great to see responses on this one!

Good to hear lilDRling. Whats is your planned route so far? I'm just finishing my set up on my DR. Brilliant bike, my first adventure bike after cutting teeth on 450 enduro's and 2t's. Comfy as too!

We are touring around South America first so Africa is somewhat dependent on funds. We were hoping to see most of the southern countries in Africa then tour up the east side but as you have already said Sudan and Egypt are currently somewhat on the iffy side. I would love to see Libya and Morocco too but it sounds like land borders aren't open. so I'm curious to see how your flight idea works out.

I spoke to a woman I know last night. She is on her way to Nairobi on a GS650. She is flying to India and having her biked flown to India on a Kenyan freight company. she was quoted $700 for the freight. I am just waiting for her to get me the name of the company. I will investigate more from then.

Ok. I have a rough quote from Ethiopian airlines for about $800 per bike from Addis Ababa to Accra. I think designated freight companies will be cheaper and am still looking. watch this space.

I can recommend Ethiopia Airlines. They flew my bike from Douala to Addis and back to Accra. No hassles and all in $1000.

I had no issues in Egypt 10 days after Morsi was kicked out. Place in empty of tourists. Jorustdotcom is there now having a blast!

But I liked Mali etc better than Egypt and Sudan...

Good luck and enjoy!

Thanks VanGS. Sounds fine to me. Do they charge by weight, per kg? (I assume u ride a GS)
