Cameroon -> Angola (May )
 

hi ,. I plan to resume my trip (motorbike currently in Yaounde ). I plan to start driving around the 1st May down to Angola -and may be Namibia-

A few questions thou:

1 How "serious" is the rainy season + mud roads. I mean , I know It will rain , and I know there will be a bit of mud . Is it doable , or stupidily impossible ? My reasoning is that if a Vannete or a Hiace can drive on a mud-track , then I certainly can with a offroad motorbike ( Honda XL-LMF 600 ).
I am specially concerned about Cameroon to Congo Rep . After that It should be ok , as the southern raininng season will be almost over by then .

2 What is the story about those "barrier pluviere"s that block Cameroon roads every 10 or so Kms (?) . It seems to me that in the rainy season , roads are actually closed down ! . Is this for every vehicle ? only trucks ? would that include motorbikes aswell ?


3 Any travellers around ? anyone interested on meeting up in Cameroon , Braza , Point Noire ?

4 Is it sensible to expect to buy knobbly tyres 21 /17 in Cameroon ? or should I bring a new set with me ?

you should be careful in Angola roads, when it rains, it really rains:stormy:,
but there are some amazing places to visit, maybe you already thinked in visiting the capital Luanda, some miles below you will find Benguela, Lobito, and there are some good black mountain roads in direction to Lubango, I think it worths.

I'll be heading in that direction about the same time. From my reading, it should be ok travelling from southern Cameroon down at that time of year. I understood that the barriers are in place to stop larger vehicles only from tearing up the muddy road.
I'm also interested to find out about the availability of trail or knobbly tyres in Yaounde, specifically a pair of 18 inch ones

We are in Yaounde at the moment, waiting for our DRC visas to come back, tomorrow hopefully, before we start heading south again. By may we should be very nearly in or maybe in Namibia so we should be able to get get photos and diqry entries up on our website.

we are in a land rover 110 rather than 2 wheels but hopefully this may be some help in terms of road conditions?

I have heqrd the section in DRC from the coast to Matadi is horrible, 100km in 3 days sort of thing........ i guess we are in for some fun:cool4:
