call for help
I'm Daan Speth and I have recently been travelling through West Africa with a good friend, each of us on a Yamaha Tenere. When entering Dakar, my travelling mate got into an accident with a truck and died. My journey was over at that point, and after arranging the necessary paperwork for my friend I flew home to Holland.
Problem is, I did not have the time to arrange transport for my motorcycle and it stayed at the Dutch embassy. I would like to have it transported back to Holland, but from here I am only be able to arrange transport for well over 2000 euros, and that’s too expensive for me (plus, the bikes value is less). I believe it should be possible to arrange transport for a lot less, but I doubt I can do that from Holland. So I was wondering if anyone has some advice, useful info or is in the area and able to help out… |

Terrible way to end a trip ... so sad! I have a friend in Dakar who is into car rallying, I will e-mail him & find out what he knows. The other thought is to contact people like Plymouth-Banjul, Budapest-Bamako - maybe they can help or offer advice on a cheaper way of doing things. I'll get back to you as soon as I can! Kira |

Thats terrible, really sorry to hear that.
You could try to ring Lufthansa Cargo, flying bikes back used to be ok pricewise. The only problem is how to get it to the airport but maybe the embassy can help there. Kevin |

Thanks for the replies.
Kira, it would be great if your friend in Dakar could help out. I fear contacting people from europe drives the price up... I'll definately check out lufthansa cargo as well. I've already contacted the Dutch Amsterdam-Dakar organizers, but that left me none the wiser. |

How quickly do you need your bike back? Would you be ok with someone riding it back to Europe for you? The Plymouth - Banjul rally people all leave their cars in Banjul and then have to find their way home. I'm sure one of them would be interested in riding your bike home. The only problem is the rally runs (I think) at the end of the year.
