Botswana Advice
 

Greetings,

I am planning a 7 -10 day trip to Botswana from Pretoria, South Africa on a GS 650. As I plan my route, I am interested to learn from the group any places that are particularly worth seeing. Also, I welcome any precautionary tales as this is my first time to Botswana.

It is afantastic country and much friendlier than SA was when I travelled through a couple of years ago. The Okavango is fantastic if you get time. #The dead cows on the road and mad dogs that chase you I guess you get in SA.

Was down in Botswana in May / June - went out onto the Ntwetwe Pan on a quad bike. Travelled out to the edge of the pan in a Landcruiser but there was a Dutch motorcyclist heading out to the pan from Gweta. The route out is mostly soft sand but we were impressed by the Pan. The Okavango delta is also worth seeing, but hard on anything that doesn't like being in a few feet of water.

Definitely the Delta - whether by dugout or by air; it is truley spectacular. Did it in 2000 when I did a 4x4 trip from Nairobi to Cape Town.

We drove from Maun via Moremi, River Kwai, Savute and Chobe to the Victoria Falls. It is one of the most beautiful drives I ever made, with lots of game both in the National Reserves, but also in the "real wilderness" in between. You will encounter many elephants, hippos, crocs and maybe lions along that "main road". There is also a lot of soft sand. With a Landrover we didn't get stuck, but sometimes it was close. I don't know if there is any restrictions for motorbikes.
