Best route from Namibia to Mozambique?

I've been hours on Google Maps.
So, what's the best/safest/more enjoyable way to go from Windhoek to Mozambique?

Tar will be greatly appreciated :D

Oh, BTW, I just came from SA, so if I can avoid going back south would be wonderful

You could try

Windhoek [Nam]
Ghanzi -> Maun -> Francistown [Bots]
Buulawayo -> Harare - Kariba [Zim]
Lusaka ->Chipata [Zam]
Mchinji -> Lilongwe -> Mangochi -> Chiponde
Mandimba -> Cuamba -> Nampula -> Pemba [Moz]

This keeps you on Tar until you hit Moz. The Cuamba - Nampula road is much improved but not yet tarred when we went through in Aug 2011. This route is almost a "transit" - a lot of interesting stuff is nearby but off tar. You don't say which part of Moz you're aiming for, but given that you are coming from SA, I have assumed Pemba is a reasonable destination.

We did this parts of this route, and meandered to various National Parks off it in 2011. More info on website below if you need it.

I was considering arriving to Mozambique in Chimoio to enjoy a bit of the country and then heading north to Malawi. I see your route goes north all the way from Botswana. Is there a reason for it? Windhoek-Gaborone-Francistown-Bulawayo-Mutare looks more straight and there are less borders. Do you prefer your route for a reason?
How are the main roads in Botswana and Zimbabwe?

Hi - I just guessed (incorrectly!) that you might be heading further North in Moz if you were coming from SA. If not, then the route you suggest is more direct. The main roads in Zim and Bots are in top condition - the advertised speed limits are 100-120km/h can be easily maintained.

It's a very broad question, there's so many routes and beautiful places to see on route. The route in itself is safe . But what do you want to see and do you want to ride tracks or highway?

I would suggest go register at Wild Dog Adventure Riding - Index and ask them it is the biggest and best D/S site with local information and people will gladly help you. There's also many ride reports of that area you can use for your planning.
