its 18 months since I did it on bike, but I'd say it would be distinctly non-trivial! there were deep patches of sand and dust, sizeable steps etc. the fuel lorry for the Paris Dakar rally was having a very tough time. personally, I'd pick a graded route instead.

thanks for the info I am just looking for another route from / to bamako from Senegal or Mauri . any ideas ? I have done Tintane-nioro-bamako. Timbedgha-Nara-Molodo-Segou , Nema-Nara-Bamako and Ayoun el atrous-Nioro-bamako and am now getting tired with the route de espoir from nouakchott but Kidira-bamako seems a bit much in a 2wd. once again thanks for the info. Any thoughts on other routes would be welcome .

Did it a lot of times up to 3 years ego. You needed GROUND CLEARANCE back then. I used Merc 207 or 508 vans, no problems although the bushes leave bad scratches.

Took Kayes, then vio the river to diema, then east to selininkegni, down to the river at bafoulabe then via the dam at Manantali to Kita and Bamako.

Beautiful journey, really rough in the rainy season though. I understand sticking to the river the whole way is very difficult.
