atm in Lome
 

The atm (BTCI on Rue 13 Janvier) wasn't giving me money, using my UK visa card. Just said 'no authorisation'. I just tried everyday thinking the link was down, as it frequently is. Turns out that each time I tried it did actually register on my account, but the machine didn't pay out. So I have 400 UK pounds, that I didn't receive from the machine, but which is on my credit card statement.

Arrgggghhh!

If you're using atm's it's worth asking for and keeping the receipts... Hindsight is marvellous!

thats bad news, we did not use the atm in lome because of the problems in the city before the election. hey, good luck getting your money back. my health insurance still ows me 5500 euros, but so far my lawer did not ask for money.

Same thing happened to me in Croatia 4 years ago, phone and tell it to your bank inmediately!
I had all my money back (after spending about 80 euros on phone calls). In fact, it was only blocked, not taken away.
After that I really prefear to use cash and an ATM only when it is strictly necessary.
I had also some accidents in Spain before: I withdrew 20 euros, but was given only 5 and the nasty guys from the bank told me that they couldn't do anything!!!
