Anyone got their Ethiopian Visa in Khartoum (Recently) ???

We got to Egypt three weeks ago. Obtaining Sudanese visas took a week and the Ethiopian holidays and weekend mean almost another week for those too. We have already missed one ferry to Wadi Halfi and are booked on for the 18th.

WE ARE SICK OF CAIRO and want to get south or to the coast before we go insane.

We hear the Ethiopian visa is available in Khartoum, Sudan but I've not heard anyone actually getting it there !!

Can anyone help us out here ??

Very good question, I was hoping that I could get my Ethiopian visa in Khartoum so will be hoping someone can reply! Ted, are you still in Cairo? If so it would be good to meet up - I'll be here for another week or so as I wait for my Sudan visa.. I can see why you are fed up of the place - and I have only been here since yesterday!

Hey Ted,

I haven't been following it recently, but a couple of years back it was dead easy to get your Ethiopian visa in Khartoum. Usual dance, some driving around in circles to find the place, some general confusion about lineups and forms, but in the end I think it took only a day or so.

Every place I look online, recent and old says Khartoum no problem. Can't find any guaranteed "I did it last week" info but it seems highly likely.
Our original plan was to get it in Sudan so hopefully it is still possible. We wanted to minimise Cairo time..... sounds like a good plan!
Good luck and keep us posted. Will buy you a beer when we catch up.
Cheers,
Robin

Yup... Still in Cairo.

We are currently in a group of six. We got our sudanese and ethiopian visas today (after a 6 day wait) apart from one of us. Just the Sudanese Embassy being a pain for no reason. We all submitted them together but they delayed one of us by one day meaning we cant get the final ethiopian one until Sunday EARLIEST. Don't ask why !!!

Tomorrow we are heading to Suez to check out the canel then slowly head down the red sea trying to wild (free) camp on the way to Aswan.

Neil will have to try and get his Ethiopian visa in Khartoum as he/we cant face another week in this crazy, hot, busy city !!

We will (hopefully) be on the wadi halfa ferry on the 18th. All the others are booked up BOOOOOOO.. (yes i know we should of booked)

I got an Ethiopian visa in Khartoum without too many problems just a few months back. The embassy has recently moved from its stated location in LP to a few blocks further East in a large open compound.

I arrived at 9am the first day and was told visas were 'finished' for the day. It turns out they have a quota: only 30 are issued each day. First thirty people to arrive get a visa, issued same afternoon if you're lucky, next day if not. Anyone who arrives after thirty application forms have been handed out, is out of luck.

In practice this means you need to get there by 8am to be sure of getting a form. This guy come out with thirty forms and hands them out outside the gate, often before the place opens. Once you've got a form, you're in. At busy periods, before holidays and such, you need to be there by 7.30 and queue.

Cost was USD 30 and service inside was pretty quick and efficient once you get in. Take photos with you though as there's no facility for taking them in the embassy and they won't hold your slot while you go and find them.
