Any news from Congo BRV and DRC???

Hello friends,

we are two travellers on the way to Congo BRV and DRC (Kinshahsa - Lumumbashi) in a 4WD, at the moment in Gabon heading south.
I would appreciate any UP-TO-DATE information from these two countries regarding the roads and security.

By now we travelled in 3 months through Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon and Gabon, with no real problems, fully enjoying it.

Take care et Bon voyage,

Matooch and Henry

How's it going Paul? Where are you? I'm in Yaounde, just fitted some Taiwanese knobblies to the Beemer and heading (i think) to CAR on sunday to catch a Bangui-Brazzaville barge, although the situation there has me a bit worried. If you're hanging around in South Africa i might see you there.

Heading north from Angola to Gabon

Hey All

We are in Pointe Noire (Congo) at the moment having come north from Angola. Left Luanda two weeks ago. A little summary of the roads from there if you like:

Luanda to DRC border: Generally potholed or poor quality gravel/rocky roads. Average about 30km per hour

DRC border to Cabinda border: Matadi to Boma is reasonably good tar. From Boma to Muanda it gets a little more hectic with some deep mud sections. We got stuck once and got towed out.

Muanda to the Cabinda border: A very unpleasant 2 miles before the border with some bonnet high deep puddles. A little daunting but passable.

Road through Cabinda ranges from freshly laid tar to some badly potholed sections.

Road from Congo border to Pointe Noire is decent tar.

Thats about it on the roads... hope it helps.

If you want any more info, drop us a line.

We are heading north to Gabon in the next few days... we are particularly interested in finding out if it is possible to get to Mayumbe (Gabon) from Pointe Noire. We would like to stay on the coast as much as possible and know that the road to the Gabon border is passable, but have no further information after that... any insight would be appreciated.

Regards
