Angola Visa in Brazzaville?

We met a Brazillian couple heading north who were talking about a 7 day transit visa for Angola that can be got in Brazzaville. This was the first I've heard of it, just wondering if anyone else has any more info?

Anyone happen to know if the DRC visa is readily available in Yaounde again? I know there were a lot of rejections but a group picked up the visa there a couple of weeks ago.

Cheers,
Will

Hey Will,

one of the Traveller-Tracks users just passed Brazza. His fellows (spain) tried to obtain the Angola visa there and were rejected by the clerks of the embassy. After using the ferry to Kinshasa, the officials of the DRC wanted to reject them as well (although they had a tourist visa for DRC - maybe they told the immigration officer they are planing to go to Angola). But they discussed that long, that the ferry left without them and with some help of the spanish ambassador himself they were able to enter the DRC and looking now forward to obtain the visa in Matadi.
The Traveller-Tracks User got his visa without any problems in Abuja/Nigeria. Have a look: Routes, overnight places, accomodations, embassies, country details

Cheers Peter

Cheers for that, sounds like nothing has really changed. Just kicking ourselves for not getting it in Abuja now!

Matadi is probably the best place for you now

Hi Will

We had an absolute nightmare with the Angolans... for reasons I would pay good money to see someone comprehend... I have no idea!

Looooooong story short we had a single entry 30-day visa which we had to use to get through Cabinda (Nooooo!) so we basically used our gold-dust 30-day visa for 1 hour!

We then managed to get into DRC by telling the border officials that our single-entry 30-day visa was valid for a 2nd entry, into Angola mainland. We only had a transit visa for DRC. They bought it, but of course we weren't able to enter Angola proper. Arriving in Matadi we were able to obtain a 5-day transit visa for Angola the same day. Of all the Angolan consulates we went to (Abuja, Pointe-Noire, Brazzaville, Matadi) they were by far and away the friendliest and most helpful. All kudos to them, and if you can, don't even bother with the others - they are all about as unhelpful as you can imagine.

Of course the only possible sticking point you will have will be to gain entry to the DRC in order to get to the Angolan consulate in Matadi. They are notorious for turning people back if you don't have onward travel plans.

Hope this helps

Cheers

I think we're going to try and not mention onward travel, if they do ask then say we're shipping from Matadi to Namibia therefore eliminating visa problems. Then if I have to, forging a shipping company recipt shouldn't be too hard. If anyone has any recipts I can use as a template that would be most useful!

Thanks for the advice.

Having a letter of invitation for Angola helps a great deal when attempting to secure a DRC visa or actually entering DRC via Kinshasa. We were asked at the DRC border in February '09 to show evidence of onward travel -- a letter of invitation to Angola did the trick.

And agreed, the Angola consulate in Matadi is friendly and efficient. Let's hope that continues to be the case ~~ Good luck to all.

Mark
