Angola vehicle documentation
 

I am new to the group so greetings to everyone.
I will be travelling to Angola later in the year and have noticed that Angola does not feature on the front page of the ATA carnet I have.
Does Angola like some othe countries still stamp the Carnet or if not what documentation/ temp permits are required.

We used the Carnet entering and leaving Angola. But that was almost 2 years ago. Rules changes just like that so maybe try to get some recent info too.

What is particularly important in Angola is your innoculaton book. Make sure it is up to date and has yellow fever stamps! Make sure your ID data in the booklet are correct. We were travelling with a Brit who's passport number didn't match the pp number in his booklet. (had a new passport) They gave him a hard time and he almost had to buy a new book including associated injections! But then again, it might have been an incident.

Otherwise, angola is a nice country, very friendly people!

I used my carnet to enter and exit, though i did have to show the border officials how to fill it in- and you could get away without a carnet.

I would say the same is true for all the countries down the west coast. I thought it just made it easier to use it.

have you done the west coast? a couple of us about to leave in dec... we're in two minds about getting a carnet? would you get it again to do the trip?

A good question.

It did make things very easy and routine at each border using a carnet. Even if the officials didnt know what it was, its an offical looking document for the bike which they never seemed to question.

As long as my passport was stamped in/out and the carnet was stamped in/out i was good to go.Over simplified a little but the point is -no need for temp importation certs etc.

HOWEVER having the carnet meant that i was unable to sell the bike in South Africa and had to bring it back to get my deposit from the RAC.

I have read posts on this site that that say catagorically you do not need one for the west coast. As I, and the people i was occasionally with, had one it would be difficult to confirm that.

If i was planning to bring the bike back home I would get one.

If was planning to leave it/ sell it. I wouldnt.
