Visa for Cameroon?

Hi all, we're currently in Morocco on our way down the Atlantic route to Capetown. We were hoping to avoid as much of Nigeria as possible by staying north and head into the north of Cameroon, but all references we can find to getting a Cameroon visa talk about getting it in Calabar.

Are there any other options earlier on our route (Mauri, Senegal, Gambia, Mali, Burkina, Niger)?

Thanks for any help!!

Talking

Hi,

We are also in Morocco, in Ouarzazate and heading towards Agadir today and then following the Atlantic route. Our plan south sounds similar to yours, we look forward to catching up with you on the road... we are riding a couple of Suzuki DRZ400s.

We have addresses for most of the African embassies on our way down, but who knows if they still exist?!!

We would also be interested in any up to date Cameroon visa info.... thanks.

Ride safe

Thumbs up

Cheers for the replies guys, much appreciated. Always good to hear from fellow travellers nearby! Dakar it is, then. Thanks very much for the info, and who knows, maybe we'll see you on the road!

We were originally expecting to get to Nouadibou for Thurs 18th Oct, but we're probably delayed at least a day here in Tinerhir as Ed's been unexpectedly struck down with gut rot.

Take care all,
dan.

hi ..you can get your Cameroon visa in NJamena , and -surprise-! is FREE !!!

in the Embassy in Njamena (Chad ) you can get a transit visa for up to 10 days . I actually overstayed the visa for 2 weeks and no problems whatsoever ..

You can find the GPS position of the embassy in Chad here

Viajes y Aventuras. NET

(Its on Spanish , but the waypoints section is multi-language) Just click on
"WAYPOINTS VIAJES Y AVENTURAS " -left menu- and zoom in and click in Tchad.

Have a nice day
Javier

From Lagos

Hi, got my visa to Cameroon in Lagos, nightmare city, but did it in 2 days. Drove through Benin City to Calabar, totally chilled, no hassles.

Go to Nigeria

Folks, don't worry too much about Nigeria. My suggetion is to go to Nigeria as well, because it is just so funny country with many different tribes. You don't need to go to Lagos. Calabar is a nice town by Nigerian standards and if you have crossed Nigeria and end up there you think it is some other country.

Once in Cameroon do yourself a favor and drive Ring Road, go to lake Nyos (where there was fatal poison gas accident years ago, some 1000 people died and after that this place is quite deserted except small military camp). The place looks like Norway.

Thanks again everyone for the info - the free transit visa from Chad would be great but Chad isn't on our planned route so it would be quite a detour. Decisions decisions...
