vaccination list needed
 

My grandchildren spilled hot chocolate on my binder which had the list of shots needed and I can't find it again in the forum. Can someone direct to it? Also, did anyone really get the rabies shots, or am I being a bit paranoid. The series of vaccinations begins next week with yellow fever and dpt. Before we get wound up, I would like some input from those who have traveled in South American and Africa as to what was recommended and what shots you actually got.

Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Yellow Fever, diphtheria, tetanus booster, polio booster, Meningitis A,C,W and X (one shot, got it in Namibia). I took Malerone for my anti-malarial. I was told by a specialist not to take the anti-rabies shots for my type of travel. Good luck!

getting the menningitius shots 3 in 1 sounds wonderful considering I hate shots.

good news. now if the hepatitus shots are combined, that is even more good news.

Hate to break it to you, but one of those Hep Vac's required 3 shots over a six month period...win some, lose some!

Vaccines needed
 

Rabies vaccine is only needed if you will be more than 24 hours away from a main hospital. The vaccine is in 3 doses and does not protect against rabies, but blocks the advance of the infection.

Basically withour injection need to get treatment within 24 hours but with injection you have up to 72 hours - so its your choice

My hepatitis were in one shot. Called Twinrix. Down side is that you have one shot then another 6 months later.

Here's one that I hadn't budgeted for....
I have been down to the travel clininc today to book in for a course of jabs for Eastern Europe, Russia, The Stans, Azer, Georgia, Turkey and back to UK.
For Japanese Encephalitis, Tick Borne, Rabies, Hep B and a Cholera I'm shelling out £350 - the advice and treatment are free!
Hope that this helps with others budget plans!

Just thought I would thank everyone for the good advice. WE will finish off the jabs as soon as it is warm enough to leave the aprtment. Our hep jabs were 3 space one month apart. The tyhpoid, yellow fever, etc were spaced out ofver a two month span and the total cost for both of us will be about 300 USD. We were going to buy Malerone now while my income is relatively high and steady but since we won't actually enter mozzie country for more than a year after the trip begins we decided to wait on that. Going through Central america and South America we will just keep well covered and use bug juice ans such, saving the expensive malarone for Africa, India and S.E. Asia.

I'd recommend bringing some Malarone with you, not as a preventative but as a cure just in case. 12 tablets over 3 days is the 'fix it' dose.

I caught chloroquinine resistant malaria & had to get some sent from the UK - waiting for the post to arrive was very unpleasant.
