No idea Ted if they have ever changed anything, but this is one I along with thousands of motorcyclists and 75,000 Manx residents will be following carefully, do you realise the countries we have reciprical agreements with?

The UK has reciprocal health agreements with all EU countries and with many others including

Anguilla,
Armenia,
Azerbaijan,
Barbados,
Belarus,
Bosnia and Herzegovina,
Croatia,
Falkland Islands,
Georgia,
Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan,
Macedonia,
Moldova,
Russia,
St Helena,
Serbia and Montenegro,
Tajikistan,
Turkmenistan,
Turks and Caicos Islands,
Uzbekistan,
Ukraine.

So why should we 'cut the Isle of Man adrift'?

I totally agree with the cause and it sucks !!!!!!!!!!!!

I've visited the IOM for the TT races along with many bikers but I'm thinking thats probably the problem..

The Island is famous for racing and other extreme activities. .. Bikes, cars, rally, MX events. Mostly people from the UK using the IOM as a racetrack.

I can imagine the IOM health system is getting pissed off with bandaging up UK residents when they do themselves an injury and the NHS bean counters are looking to cut costs where they can.

The NHS has to pay for all the broken bikers on TT week without having any rights to collect "tax" with speeding offences.

It would really suck to need to take out health insurance to go the IOM and the TT's but i'm not surprised this has happened.

It is not the Isle of Man Health authority or thier Government getting pissed off with patching UK residents up, it is the Isle of Man residents that stand to lose more, The Island does not have the specialist resources that we have in the UK, Head injuries is just one example, and I believe that the Manx health authority pays the UK to use these resourses, so why do the UK want a stop put to it?
Who pays for health care, child benefit(even when the kids don't even reside in the UK) for immigrants?.........Yes the good old taxpayer!!

Petition to:

Reinstate the Reciprocal Health Agreement between the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man

This petition is now closed, as its deadline has passed.
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Reinstate the Reciprocal Health Agreement between the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man. More details
Submitted by Alexander Norori-McCormac – Deadline to sign up by: 11 March 2010 – Signatures: 9,294

More details from petition creator

Just like the Channel Islands will have to from April 1st 2009, from April 1st 2010 health care in the UK for Manx residents and vice versa will no longer be free, due to the UK governments decision to withdraw from the agreement! This is clearly against the best interests of all the parties involved, and we wish it to be continued, for the mutual benefit of all those on business, holiday, education or any other reason.

Government response

On Thursday 9 September, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Public Health, Anne Milton, announced that following discussions between the Department, the Isle of Man Government and the devolved administrations, a new reciprocal healthcare agreement between the UK and the Isle of Man will come into effect from 1 October.
The new agreement will put the current temporary arrangements on a permanent footing meaning that UK residents visiting the Isle of Man will receive free, state provided healthcare, as will Isle of Man residents visiting the UK.
Under the agreement, no public funds will change hands and this brings the Isle of Man into line with other agreements that the UK has with a number of non-European Economic Area Countries.
The new agreement represents a sensible and logical conclusion and provides certainty for travellers on temporary visits between the UK and Isle of Man.
