Problems with world nomads claim

I picked up my insurance through world nomads last fall for a three months trip to thailand. Luckily I didn't need it for medical reasons, but they provide coverage for your electronics while you're on your trip. I had a run-in with the tide in Phuket and my cell phone died, so I put in the claim and followed all the instructions about a week after the incident. That was the beginning of December.

It's now July, 8 months later, and I still have no firm response from them, only notes saying that it's still being processed. I sent them the damn phone even. When they do respond it takes them about 10 business days to do so.

The service has been terrible. I'd avoid them in the future. Imagine if my claim was for 1000s or even 10,000s, all of which I'd probably be paying interest on on my credit card!

World Nomads

Hello everyone! I travelled to South Africa and I had my insurance with World Nomads. While I was there the driver of the truck of our safari decided to drive into a flooded river, which made our truck fall off a bridge and started to sink into the river. We had to be rescued by the red cross helicopter and almost got killed. I started to had nightmares and went to the doctor who said that I had post traumatic stress disorder and recommended to come back to the UK ASAP. I contacted the emergency number from World Nomads and a very lovely woman said that as long as I had the note from the doctor saying that this is what I needed, the flights would be cover by the insurance. That I could buy the tickets myself and then I would get a refund. So... guess what happened... Once I got back, World Nomads said taht they wouldn't cover for them, they said that they don't cover for psychological problems... no matter what happened or what the doctor said. They neither cover you for any legal advice if you want to make a claim against somebody. The treatment received from them it is horrible, they just treat you like if you were trying to get money out of them, when you actually need them the most. I would never recommend them, please, use any other insurance company!
Good luck,

Ana

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
