Sick in Peru

I have a quick question. I´m not sure if this is an apprioate place to paost this question, but I seem to have come down with the flu again, 3rd time in 4 months of bieng in Mexico, Centrtal and South America. I am really getting frustrated by it, do you think it is possible I have something else? I almost never get sick back in the states, or in my other travels. To get sick this often is highly unusual for me. Any suggestions?

jklotz-you may have Lyme Disease(a vector-borne infection, caused by a tick bite).Lyme Disease produces flu-like symptons, including fever, headaches, extreme fatigue, and muscle aches. You live in a part of The U.S. with Deer Ticks.Look for the characteristic "bull's-eye" rash on your body.If nothing else, you should try to find an English speaking Doctor, your health is very important.Good Luck

Don't be too quick on conclusions. Lyme disease is by far not the only reason why you might be having a flu-like symptoms!!!

If I were you I would get in touch quite quick with a English speaking doctor. If not local, call home and get in touch over the phone to get more info.

A blood test might be needed to find out what is going on. There are just way to much options based on what you gave for symptoms. Fact is that you body is reacting to something. It is key to find out what!

Fireboomer-you are correct,my reply was in no way meant to be diagnostic or definitive.I was simply trying to show that the "flu" is not always the flu.Something is wrong if jklutz is sick for several months.Travelling in remote countries can be difficult enough without the stresses of ill health.

You might want to get a malaria test as well. Flu like symptoms are apparently one of the early indicators of malaria, although don't quote me because I am not a doctor.
