Medical Insurance For Riding A Trail Bike?

Does anyone have any experience getting medical insurance for riding RTW on a trail bike?
I contacted World Nomads in Australia who informed me that motorbike riding is covered - with the exception of trail bikes.
As my partner and I ride DRZ400's which is classified as a trail bike they refuse to insure us.
It obviously has something to do with trail bike riding being seen as a far riskier activity than 'regular' motorbike riding.
They obviously don't understand that we will not be blasting down trails 24/7 but that it is simply a tool for us to go offroad once in a while.

I would be happy if anyone has any suggestions of companies who will cover for trail bikes also.

Thanks!

Sanne

Medical Insurance

:scooter:Not sure which state of OZ you are from, but I insured with NRMA,NSW,riding a motorcycle of 650cc,while overseas.Perhaps you volunteered to much info to Nomad and they think your bike is some sort of racing machine.

Yes, I think you've got this arse about tit and are going about it the wrong way round. Don't mention what you plan to do - just look for cover where there are no specific exclusions for countries you are visiting and for activities such as motorcycling.

I'll try and look up tomorrow the name of the Aussie online insurer I used - they were ultra cheap and delivered the goods.

I used Medibank Privat Travel Insurance for our trip from OZ to Europe in 2008 -2009.
They cover motorcycling and are reasonable with there pricing.

Good luck

Hi I went with Travel Insurance Direct Travel Insurance from $38 - Travel Insurance Direct Australia which covers motorbikes as long as you have a valid licence in the country you are travelling in. They do not ask what type of motorbike. The another option is World Care Travel Insurance Australia | Travel Insurance Quote | Worldcare

Have a great trip - where are you heading?

Yeah you're probably right in that I went over board in the info I gave them... I just don't want to be caught out in the chance I have an accident and not being covered. But don't know if they would actually ask for type of bike and photos in a situation like that? Does anyone know?

We are going RTW...can't wait :taz:

No , they don't ask for a picture, just the cc (size) and where you are going. The only problem you might have with any claims is that the fine print says you need to have a valid license in the country you are travelling in. Some countries don't recongise a international drivers permit (i.e. Cambodia) so if you had a problem there, in theory, the insurance may not cover you.
Best of luck, you should have a great time!

Insurance

Hi there,
I'm currently in Nepal having ridden from Ireland. I got sick for 6 weeks and ended up in hospital here in Nepal and the insurance paid out no hassle at all. I used Navigator Travel Insurance, they actually advertise on this site. It was all very easy and quite inexpensive.
Hope this helps.

Regards
Helen
