Helmet Itch

I have had my Arai helmet since 2012 and have ridden 70,000 km with it. All of a sudden on my way to the HU event in Nakusp I got helmet itch. Never had it happen before. I've washed the lining, used disinfectant, got a cool max do rag, and have been washing my hair with Head and Shoulders Itch shampoo. I am still getting it. I am not sure what else I can do except replace the helmet. Any suggestions? Is there a age limit to the lining?

Just as a sad case, my Arai is nearly 20 years old and I have dropped it more than once.
Part of the head-lining disintegrated a while ago and I replaced that with a shoulder pad, borrowed from one of the many dresses owned by my wife, glued into place - it is really, really comfortable and fits me like the proverbial glove.

You can tell that I don't subscribe to the marketing hype concerning helmets.

No idea about the itching by the way; my helmet is just fine, but I might need a new one sometime, when the chin strap gives up completely.

Don't ya just love it when ya need to itch when a helmet is on

If there is nothing wrong with the helmet, then it's ya head.....throw it away
Get your head checked by a doctor & clean the lining again

Ii've no real idea what causes helmet itch but my head itches like crazy after a couple of days in my cleaned within an inch of its life Shoei but not a single scratch in my used and abused Lidl flip front.

Might be worth having a close look inside though as a friend recently spent a very itchy couple of hours until he took his helmet off and a cicada flew out.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
