Dukoral - how to use long term + where to get it cheap?

In various posts Dukoral has been mentioned.
That stuff sounds really good.

This is summarized, what I found out about Dukoral.
Durokal is a vaccines, that immunises protects against cholera and ETEC (whichthat causes most cases of traveller's diarrhea (90%?).
Two doses (second 1 to 6 weeks after the first.
protection is given 1 week after the second dose.
Protection against cholera lasts for 6 months.
Protection against ETEC lasts for 3 months.

Questions:
  1. Who has taken it for longer? Do I have to take one dose after 3 month to refresh it? Backround is: we will be in Central- and South-America for 12 to 15 month.
  2. Can I buy it in a pharmacy in the USA or in Mexico without prescription?
  3. Prices I found in the internet are high: >85 USD for two doses. We are Germans and have only a rudimentary traveller´s health insurance → we have to pay it out of our own pocket.
That leads me to: where to get it cheapest? USA or Mexico? Any „tricks“ to get it cheap or for free?

Hi

According to my vaccine record I had the second one week after the first, and the booster won't be required for 2-3 years?

The second can be one week after the first, but if you leave it more than 6 weeks you need to start again. Similarly if the booster is left too long the course of two needs to be repeated.

It also needs refrigeration if you are taking it with you.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
