Off-road training in UK - so you don't get hurt in the first place

Wasn't sure exactly where to post this, and couldn't find any similar threads by searching, so apologies if this is duplication.

I've been looking for a good but resonably priced course for some time, but was not having much success. I found out about this at the last Touratech Travel event, and it seems to tick all of the boxes.

I've just booked myself into this new course that is starting up in the UK. I'll type out the flyer:

Lee Walters Off Road Training School
In association with Bahnstormer Motorrad

An off-road training school for the big off road trail bikes.
Lee and his instructors will help you to ride competanly and more confidently.
The courses will show you how to handle your motorcycle off road and will take place on our off-road site and on local roads in Hampshire.

Course 1:
On trail bikes 650cc and over
Day one - Controlling the bike
Day two - Rideout and lunch

Course 2:
The Enduro School... which will be from lower expert to the very novice.
This course will help improve your ability to ride the burms, rutts and jumps correctly and generally improve your enduro riding.

*All courses will be on rider' own machine.

Prices
Course One - £150
Course Two - £150

Contact
Lee Walters

Lee was one of the guys taking us around the trails at the last Touratech event, and he is a top bloke, and very competant on two wheels. If you've seen Charlie Boorman's Race to Dakar DVD, Lee is the guy that partners Charlie on the Hare and Hounds race (which Charlie actually finishes!). Lee regularly rides with Simon Pavey and Nick Plumb, and has competed in a vast number of enduro comps and rallys in the UK.

(I'm not on commission here by the way).

So, I'm booked in to do this in May, and if I remember I'll post a review.

OTT riding and contact

Hi Rich,

It's neil here. We had a few s at the HU meet at Ripley. It's taken me this long to find you on the HUBB-pretty poor computer skills!

I had a great day with Boyd at overlandertrailtours.co.uk . He does 121 big bike days out tailored to suit your needs and abilities-though I did seem to spend a lot of the time picking my bike up! At least it's only a 650. It is quite reasonably priced if 2 of you go-about £85.00 for a very full day from memory. Work on an 8.30 start through to 5.00pm. You sleep well!

How did your 2 day course go?

Cheers,

Neil

Hi Neil,

I didn't end up going on the weekend with Lee Walters (finances didn't allow in the end), but I have a friend that did go and loved every minute of it. He said it really improved his riding, which I can vouch for having ridden with him before and after the training. He's not on HU, but you can track him down on ADVrider.com [his username name is: cantstayupright].

I'm staying clear of the trails for a few weeks, as I'm getting married at the end of September and I've been warned! But maybe I'll look at these guys next year.

Thanks,
Rich

That looks very reasonabley prices compared to many !

What I can also recommend for confidence and skill building is going on an trail biking holiday..

I did one in Spain in February and it cost less than £200 with flights and accomodation using their bikes in the fantastic Spanish mountains about 2-3 hours from Barcelona (Empuriabrava I think).

It transformed my riding and confidence and I really wish I had done a couple of these before setting off on my travels last year.

Most guides will encourage you and give you tips and being on someone elses bike in a group, just having fun, gives you a HUGE confidence boost in your own natural abilities, which anyone will tell you is half the battle with riding offroad.

Even of you learn nothing (unlikely), you will still have a fantastic time..

OOOOOOOOOOOR !! Get yourself a very old cheap trail bike and try some greenlaning.

Hi All

I2I do a great range of courses too. I did their Machine Control course and their offroad course (racing round a dirty hilly course) and can't recommend them too highly. The course I did were in Yorkshire but I think that they have a few other venues now. You can see their courses at i2imca.com.

W!
