Australians Travel Insurance

Hey all

Has anyone had any experience with either: Allianz Travel Insurance or Travel Insurance Direct?

I was originally looking at a quote from WorldNomands which is $2,200AUD for 12months cover worldwide.

Travel Insurance Direct comes in at $990, and as far as I can tell from the PDS they cover motorcycle riding and seems to cover all other requirements (dental, medical, theft of cash, theft of travel documents etc). Allianz comes in at about $1,800.

Cheers all!

Steve

Suggest you contact them directly and check

motorcycle cover - any capacity limit?

medical - evacuation? Some places don't have the medical facilities you'd want to use. E.G. When the registrar of a hospital has a broken keg and flys out to another hospital to get treatment :funmeterno:

Countries - if it includes the USA the cost at least double.

Warin - TID's PDS states that they cover large capacity motorcycles provided the rider has a helmet and is fully licensed in their home country. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience dealing with them, as the customer service on the claim end can vary GREATLY from company to company I've found.

No problem, I shall go with them and report back! :thumbup1:

World Nomads cost seems wrong

I'm paying $800 a year for World Nomads. Have a look whether you are marking on-road or off-road riding. The cost for Cat. 3 (off-road) is double the price. I have an email from them that on-road includes grubby little gnarly tracks if they are between towns, officially 'maintained' by authorities. Off-road is categorised as racing around tracks on private property or wilderness.

As Warin pointed out, the US bumps up the price. I was in the US for a month out of the year I wanted so I took a separate policy for the month then started my year policy in Mexico.

That's great advice Paul!

I've dropped it to Level 2 and excluded US / Canada and it drops to $1,200AUD, still higher than TID but much more reasonable cost. I'll contact them for the wording re off road riding, will hopefully be doing some pretty remote tracks.

Thanks for the help :thumbup1:

I've been with TID and they aren't great but read the pds, ie. A helmet left on a bike then stolen and taken is not covered. Bastards.

I've just come back from a month riding in Thailand and was with TID l asked about riding offroad and was told as long as it's a track lm covered l told her l was using a 650 Versy and was told as long lm licensed in Australia for that size bike and wear a helmet lm covered it included transport back into Aust if medically needed....l never got to use the claim side of things but yeah they seemed ok for that month trip

Any further advice any of you could give please?

We've got an Aussie coming to Cote d'Ivoire who currently lives in N.Africa & not had travel insurance for some time (as has been covered by work) which seems to upset some travel insurance companies :oops2:.

There's also a :scooter: 49cc Chinese KTM that will be ridden & World Nomads doesn't seem to like bikes ...

Any ideas for cheap insurance? Generally won't be travelling, some local stuff & living on site

Thanks for your help!

Problem is few companies will let you start insurance cover UNLESS you are in your own country. World Nomads may have limitations but you can start anywhere anytime and extend online the same way.

Not cheap - just renewed worldwide for 2 people well over 65 and it was $2300 AU$ for 12 months but we have suspended our private health insurance while we are away for a $1500 annual saving
