Importance of the travel insurance

I got now my own experience regarding the importance of good travel insurance...

I got to an accident with a truck in Java, Indonesia. I do not remember anything from the accident, but the worst part is that my left wrist got badly fractured.
Luckily I got to an excellent hospital in Surabaya to get the first treatments.

Before the trip I took an insurance from german ADAC and it seems to work really well. All hospital costs will be covered and they will also fly me to germany to get further treatment for my wrist.

Bike is in quite a bad shape, but I will fix it and continue my journey when my wrist is in ok condition.

Learning: it might happen also to me, so better to have that insurance...

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Traffic in Java was in my opinion just as bad as India (=Really bad!) Hope you will heal soon. Read your blog – it really is amazing to see, that total strangers will go out of their way, to be able to help, when you are in need.

Good point about the travel insurance. You´ll never know, when you are gonna need it, and if you do, costs can, and usually will, start piling up very quickly.

Traffic is bad, but maybe not so agressive as in India...
Help what I have received from locals is truly amazing. Things have gone so smoothly over here, thanks to the local contacts. This really shows how great people really are out there!

Oh, yes. Few days in hospital and one surgery are not cheap ( in addition to all other expenses...)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
