Thumbs down 3 Es problem

There has been quite a bit of discussion about Malaria recently but here is a rarer (fortunately!) problem; the 3 Es problem is Eastern Equine Enchephelitis; a guy on vacation in the USA has got it:-

BBC NEWS | Scotland | Edinburgh, East and Fife | Man in coma after mosquito bite

Personally, I've never heard of this, and it seems the only thing that can be done for humans is to prevent it in the first place.
Note, that the BBC report mentions Spain within their text, without explaining why.

Here's some facts:-

CDC Fact Sheet: Eastern Equine Encephalitis - CDC Division of Vector-Borne Infectious Diseases (DVBID)

And there are a load more sources of information here:-

Eastern Equine Encephalitis - Ask.com UK Web Search

Cover up and use insect repellent seems to be the common advice.

I think the reference to Spain is because we have so many mozzies here - Malaria was declared officially eradicated in 1964.

The Tiger Mosquito was known to invade the Valencian region last summer. In Asian countries it can spread Dengue Fever, Encephalitis and Yellow Fever, but it is not currently thought that these diseases will spread in Spain.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
