Wher to buy 2 x small used motorbikes in Vietnam

Hello all,

I have a "Wanted add" in the wanted section, so this is a short addition to that in a way.

I am trying to find out where I can buy 2 x small used, but not abused motorbikes in Vietnam.
Generally I am looking for a standard 125cc geared machine for me, and some thing like a 90cc / 120cc auto for the other person.

I was originally looking to start a trip in the south and head north.
But after a little thinking, and looking at weather charts, I guess, for this time of the year, it would be better to start in the north, and head south.
That way, we could enjoy the last of the summer in the north before it starts to get colder. As we travel southwards, the weather should improve, by that I mean, get warmer.

So,,,, if any one has recently had the joys of buying a bike in north Vietnam, ie, Hanoi, then could you please let me know what was the experience like, and did you feel you got a decent bike for your wedge.

The plan is to sell the two of them in the south, after the trip.

All comments, answers, contacts, very gratefully welcomed.

Vette

Old post, but just starting to trawl my way though HUBB SE Asia (new convert).

For anyone interested in this, few things i've experiences in/around Saigon are:

The rental agencies offering you to buy the bike instead of renting it (thereby not needing to leave your passport with them, which comes in handy as you'll need it to check into most hotels).

Getting a local trustworthy contact to bata the price at any secondhand (or new) honda/yamaha dealers. They all advised me not to go in, even with them, until the deal was organised, so as to keep the price 'local'. Then go in with the hige wad of VN dong (they really ought to cut some zero's of thier currency!) amounting up to between 300-500 dollars for second hand and hand it over. usually much to the dismay of the dealer who realised he/she could have asked for tourist prices!

Happy purchasing and riding VN

Stay upright :mchappy:
