Tyres for a BMW R1200GS

Hello,

On my way to Delhi in about 2 weeks and will need to replace both front and rear tyres for my BMW R1200GS. Does anyone have any contacts or know of any places that sell tyres that will fit? Would prefer TKC80 or similar but at this point would put on anything that fits!

Front: 110/80-19
Rear: 150/70/17

Cheers

Take some with you - we carried a spare set of TKC's (which we bought in Seattle) across Russia from Vladivostok all the way back home to UK - didn't need them as it turned out !

Hi Strimstrum,

Thanks for your post. I've been travelling now for 12 months with another 12 months to go and carrying spare tyres is not practical for me (were 2up as well). So far have been able to get tyres in eastern Turkey and southern Russia but no luck as yet for India.

Two options are: buy locally if possible which is prefered or ship tyres from elsewhere which tends to be expensive.

Does anyone know of any companies around Delhi that sell or can import tyres for a GS?

Thanks

A "hidden" big bike shop in Delhi is the Kaulson Bros:

www.goforkrp.com

They didn't have much knobbies there for GS-size, some street Dunlops in 2010 when I was there. I reminded them, that they may have an occasional overlanders coming, so maybe now they have some knobbies as well - definitely worth checking. Prices are little more than usual, since India has some 40% tax on imported parts. But it's not so bad compared to the 250% on bikes (yes, you pay 3+ times the normal market price buying an imported bike in India - only very rich people can afford Jap/Euro bikes there ).

Safe travels,
Margus

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
