Turkmenistan & Uzbekistan
 

Dear riders,

has anybody of you been recently in Turmenistan and Uzbekistan (and perhaps also in Georgia and Armenia)?

Are those regions affected by criminality, danger and annoyance? Do you think are safe places to ride for a couple (my wife and me) on a striking red BMW 1100 GS?

We have good experience of long distance motorbiking travels (North Africa, Middle East, Iran, West and East Europe), but I feel Central Asia as a dangerous place.

I'm surprised to hear that Georgia and Armenia are considered safe. Would quite happily go to Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan but Georgia in particular, still carries quite a reputation for lawlessness, kidnappings, etc. Haven't been there so don't know, just surpised to think it would be classed as safe.

Vincents informations pratiques pour les autres voyageurs has great info in french..my wife translates well fortunately. I am sure he is referring to those places he travelled through. You can copy it onto a translation site to get a good idea of what his advice is if you are like me and mono-lingual!
