Trouble free tour of vietnam on rented bikes

Following my previous thread about Vietnam, as I spent 2 weeks there touring the North, I can gladly confirm now that we had absolutely no problems at all with the local cops.

So the talks on forums about crack down on tourists renting bikes, may be a bit exagerated.

Only once did the cops try to stop us, we just ignored them as we could not stop safely there, and were not willing to stop anyway! We were entering Hanoi by the big 20 km motorway that takes you through a big bridge - apparently the bridge is not for bikes, we still managed to take it 3 times back and forth as we missed a turning!.

I will update in the next couple of weeks my website and will put all details for those interested.

cheers,

Pretending you didnt see them and just rode on is a pretty common thing to do in Asia. It sometimes helps, especially if it´s just ´tea money´ they were after, cos it often turns out they wont be bothered to go after you. Could be different, if you actually did something punishable.

Btw, I´m not recommending anyone to do this, officially you should naturally stop. And I wouldnt do it, if it is obvious to them, that you must have seen them.

If it's obvious that you have seen them, just laugh real friendly, wave at them and scream a friendly "Hello" towards them pretending that you thought they just wanna say hi.

Worked over 10 times by now.

The rule still is, if they really want you, they get you.

The Viets them self actually do it the hard way and just wave a "No"-signal towards the cops and drive off.
