Question Trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos

We are planning a trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos starting Dec and are researching information on hiring or buying bikes when we fly into Ho Chi Minh City and if we can take them into Laos and Cambodia.

Any information or relevent experience would be welcome.

Thanks Kieran

know some guys

hey,
I just got back form HCMC saigon, and was renting bikes through the highlands, however, On my travels, met these americans on a russian minsk, kinda popular over there with westerners, and they did all vietnam in two months on this bike, (which they bought for 600 US and sold for 100) but they flogged it before going to cambodia as they said they heard it was a pain in the neck to cross borders, if you do try, then make sure you have the registration paper for the bike, the other thing is, you cant actually legally obtainb a driving licence, or permit, in vietnam, at all as a foriegner, or so I have been told. But noone cares, howerver, border crossings may be a bastard for this very reason. not really sure. hey when your in saigon look around at those 60's honda two strokes you see around, they are soo wicked and i want one real bad...... traffic in saigon is nuts, gotta love it. oh yeah there is this aussie outfit called saigon scooters who are super knowledgable and can maybe help you out with info if necc.

cheers,

JG

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
