Sumatra overland
 

Hi,
I´m searching for some tips and hints for a 3-4 week ride trough Sumatra next year together with my partner.
Our plans are these:
We want to rent some motorbikes there and ride around north sumatra, perhaps a bit in direction south-east. I know some people at the Lake Toba, but the rest is new to us.
These are now my questions:
- Do you know some interesting places and roads, that are not so crowded.
- I´ve heard that there are not much places to camp, so we are thinking of travelling without our tent and look for hostels or something like this. Does anyone know, if there are much hostels in Sumatra, beside the Lake Toba?

Accommodation is very cheap, even in lake toba. I would advise sticking to the mountains as much as possible. The roads are mostly decent and the scenery is gorgeous. Lots of beautiful lakes to stay at. When you do have to veer to the coast, head towards the southern end to avoid truck traffic. enjoy!
