Iran in 8 days!

Hello,

We have just been given an 8 day visa (non extendable), after applying for 1 month tourist visa!
We have wondering if anybody out there has managed to cross Iran safely in just 8 days? Also does anybody have any info on the rail as we are likely to just put our bikes on the train now if at all possible. WE are entering from Pakistan and I believe that possibly from Bam we should maybe able to do this. Our other option apart from riding is to put the bikes on a truck...

Thanks in advance for any info.

I didnt do it in 8 days but it should be possible.

The roads are amazing, there a fuel stations everywhere and you can camp everywhere!

Im not sure where your entering and exiting but the hardest part would be from the city of Bam to the Pakistan boarder. This is where you will pick up an police escort (for free) and you will be stuck under their control. But if you like to speed, your in luck, they will go fast!

I would allow 2 days for this, but if set out really early in the morning from Bam (if your going that way), the police will find you and technically you should be able to get to the border in one day. If your coming the other way, camp on the Pakistan border (you can camp outside customs - there is a small patch of grass and you will be safe). See if you can do all your paperwork the night before and cross as soon as the border opens in the morning. Once you enter Iran you will be made to wait for a police escort to arrive (he will hitch hike 40km - so this may take hours!). I have heard of some people riding that 40kms if
a) your a boy and you can talk them into it
or
b) maybe if your a couple (they wouldnt let me do it alone as a single girl!)

if you have any other questions, please ask!!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
