Southern Asia Trip 2015

I am look at Air Freighting my bike over from the UK to ride Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia and possibly Vietnam. I have had a quote of GBP 1295 to get the bike out to Thailand or Malaysia which includes crating and paperwork etc.. and an even more expensive one to get back to UK

Is there a good Company in Thailand who does Air Freight to the UK and the does crating also
Once i get my Bike to Thailand can you unpack the crate at customs and leave the crate there or do you need to remove it and do the unpacking somewhere else.

Any other info would be grateful

I took the crated bike on a pickup to a nearby gas station, where we lifted it from the pickup with the help of some friendly locals, dismantled the crate, and put the bike back on the road. Can´t remember what actually happened to the wood material of the crate. I did not ask, IF I could have dismantled the crate at the airport.. but I would guess they´ll prefer you take all your stuff out of there.

1300 pounds for airfreight between Europe & Thailand, does not sound too bad IMO. But the size of your motorcycle naturally also matters.

Why not fly into Malasia and buy a bike there for your trip ? Surely got to work out cheaper and a lot less hassle ?
UB.

Thought about that but can I then ride it through all the other countries?

Plenty of people do it, there's a guy with a bike shop in Penang who has a good reputation for sourcing suitable bikes and assisting foreigners to do just that. I can't remember his name offhand, but I'm sure if you check through past threads on this forum you'll find him.
