Some news about the CDP for Iran

Hello, guys!

I just wanted to post this: a person I know, riding a Gold Wing 1500, has just returned back to Italy from his solo trip to Mongolia.

He wrote, on an Italian motorycle travellers message boards, that he's been told at Iran border by Iranian custom officers that there is no need of a Carnet de Passage if one's stay in Iran is not more than 10 days.
One has simply to pay a fee whose amount is according the value of the motorycle (about USD 200/250 for a motorycle whose value is about USD 9,000).
This was also said by an Italian travel agency some months ago, but we did not believe it. So, he verified this on location, and the answer seems to be positive, as you see.

Does anybody know about this possibility?

I just wanted to share this with you all, it might be interesting to anybody planning to go to Iran

We entered Iran 7 days ago at the border crossing Esendere/Serow we were asked specifically for our carnets. So we cannot confirm your information.
The border officials were extremely helpful and welcomed us to Iran.
We are now making our way steadily towards Esfahan then Shiraz and over to the border crossing with Pakistan.
Our main concern now is - if the Pakistani officials don't let us in, even though we have visas, can we get back into Iran! :confused1:

With a valid visa there is no way they can refuse you entry into Pakistan.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

It appears it depends much on the opinion of the different customs officers :(... better go with the Carnet, so.

cdp iran news

i had the same hassle 9 years ago. the agency in tehran (a.i.t.o.) told me: you can have a carnet at bazargan border, it'll costs you about 200$. fake!
carnet can only issued by your national autoclub, as i discovered once at the border. so explained my situation to the officer, we're went to the custom director. he understood my situation wrote the bike data on the passport beside the visa, sign it and stamp it up and let me go, according to comeback 3 weeks later to leave the country from the same border. i only had to pay a 70$ bribe to the officier, than iran was at my feet.
if you feel brave to face this uncertain situation, you can do it... but only if you do not have any plan to go east. i don't think pakistani border police can be so understanding...

all the best
