Shipping Malaysia to India advice pls
 

With the shipping page still down, can anyone recommend either air or sea frieghters from Kuala Lumpur or Port Kalang, Malaysia, to Chennai or Calcutta, India. Thanks.

Malaysia Airlines (MASkargo), among several others, should be able to freight your bike, or at least we freighted ours the other way round (or actually it went Chennai->KL->Bangkok) about a year ago. That cost something in the neighbourhood of 600 euros total. Can get it a lot cheaper by sea, but be prepared to wait 2-3 weeks to get it done.

But sorry, I wouldnt know about shipping agents in KL, or Bangkok for that matter, as we handled the paperwork ourselves over there.

Hope you´ll get along with Indian bureaucracy, once you get your bike over there, and start dealing with the customs! For us, it took some 9-10 hours to finally get the thing cleared out of India (plus of course several days to prepare everything before this!)... they can sometimes be a real pain in the a__!!

that looks to be about 725 euros (wow, the pound has weakened against the euro..!!). Not cheap, but not far off, either... think you might be able to get it a bit cheaper, if you manage to find the right cargo agent in KL.

Regards by sea, do note that we were warned, that there was some kind of strike going on at Chennai port, so that freight was moving, but deliberately slowly, so even though some agents claimed it would only take 4-5 days, or 1 week, we were told to be prepared for it to take several weeks in real life, not because of sailing time, but because of port handling at both ends. And if the port happens to really go on strike, who knows when you´d be able to get anything out of there! So unless you got plenty of time, might be a good idea to pay some extra, and get it done by air.

That moment when you still believe that 00s are somewhere around, but realize, that almost 10 years passed after 2008...
