selling in Thailand
Hi guys,
Does anybody know here if I can sell my motorbike (under carnet) from Australia legally in Thailand?? the problem ist after 6 month traveling we are looking to sell our Honda Dominator in the Bangkok area when we finish the trip. we shipped the bike from Australia to Kuala Lumpur in Mai and started around South East Asia. because the price of the shipping from Australia was already not cheap and that's why we are looking to sell it legally in Thailand. But I don't know if that is possible because I think I also have to close my carnet in Thailand, without getting in trouble. if anybody could give me any true information about this that would be great! Thanks guys

Hello there,
I am wondering why nobody replied to this thread? I am right now in Lahore / Pakistan and plan to travel to Thailand as well. I am also thinking about selling my Suzuki XF 650 there, because it just does not make any sense to bring it back and to pay more for the shipping than it is worth... So how high are the import taxes? Mario did you sell your Dominator? Hope to hear something! Thank you!

Short answer - no
It is technically possible to obtain a Tabianban for an imported bike . . . but that will mean paying the import duty. Figure a VERY optimistic value on your bike and then multiply that by 2.5.
Used DRZ 400's - 5 years old . . . with "book" (Tabianban) sell for more than 50% more than they do NEW in the USA. Not a likely option. However, if the buyer is willing to take a risk AND not be able to leave Thailand with the bike (no book, no exit) . . . fine. Recently, the law has changed in Thailand to (further) restrict the import of grey market or other motorbikes. You're swimming against a strong current . . .

I have sold a motear cykel in cameron that whas importet one a carne the passage the solution whas that i contakted the coustoum and sold it to them four a cheap price and a stamp in the carne this whas in 2005 love coruption

I agree with Genghis, selling an imported bike in Thailand is unlikely, as no buyer would want to involve themselves in having to pay import tax, even if you sold it dirt cheap. Even selling to an Aussie who was heading home would be a problem due to the carnet. I think you need to consider either getting together enough money to ship back to Oz.
