Question Riding bikes in thailand/laos/Vietnam/Cambodia

Hi all

We're looking into traveling in South East Asia next winter and would love to do it on motorbikes. I'd appreciate any info you've all got about hiring or buying bikes (new or second hand) in Thailand then taking them into Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.
What bikes are available?
What are the prices like for renting/buying?
Is it feasible to take bikes out of Thailand into the other countries? Or is it easier to buy or rent in Laos or Cambodia or Vietnam?

Any other tips would be great too.

Thanks in advance

Gemma

bikes

This question is elsewhere in this forum but here goes, you can rent Honda 125's most places in SE Asia for about $5 a day, your passport is required as security, Thai registered bikes can go to Laos and Cambodia but no foreign bikes in Vietnam. If you want to buy and go to all these countries you have to do it in Vietnam, I am not sure about the Hondas but Minsk 150's are about $250-300 second hand in Hanoi. Do take your own riding gear, what little is available out there is rubbish, if you do buy a bike above 125cc check that your travel insurance covers you, check that anyway, make it plain to your insurer what type of trip you plan to make.
Have fun, it is a great place the avoid the winter here.
