G'Day,
no motorbikes for rent in Shanghai (China). you need a Foreigners Resident Permit to obtain a Chinese Driving License. apparently in some cases you can get a temporary driving license for rental cars but the license is interlinked with the rental cars (you rent 7 days, you get a license for seven days!), never tried it, though. might be difficult for visitors. overseas / international driving license not accepted in China. might be worthwhile to get in touch with the Shanghai Vehicle Managment Bureau (DaBaiShu) tel. (+86) 21 65168168 located at 1101 Zhong Shan Bei Yi Lu. the Vehicle Managment Bureau handles all the issues regarding driving license for foreigners. insurance might be a big problem as well for visitors. Best Regards, Seeya in the pub or on the road... Butch ps: do not take any advise regarding fake documents (license-plates / driving license), you could end up in very serious trouble in PRC.

I think there are only some car rent companys in Shanghai, so you can't find a rent motorcycle there.
About Chinese driving license, I posted some information in last week, but it's deleted with some funny reason. By Chinese law, it's not allowed to make a tour without Chinese tour guide, so you have to join a tour group. [This message has been edited by ChinaBikeTour (edited 26 September 2005).]
