Bhutan, travel agents etc

Hi,

can any one recommend a good travel agent for Bhutan ? I am currently speaking with one (Jojo's Adventure Jojos Adventure Bhutan) but perhaps there are others ?

As far as I understand (this is from the consulate in Australia) you can only enter Bhutan if a tour operator invites and guides you. So, I guess they either charge a lot or not, depending. Also they'll take you to places with or without commission etc...

Hence my question

Txs.

F** me ! Pardon my French but.... the reply I had from the agency is the govt charges per night you spend in the country... In this case, USD250 ! Yep, two hundred and fifty dollars a night ! Kindly though, they give me a rebate since I'm driving a Landcruiser and won't need food nor accommodation as the car is pretty much a campervan. Rebate is 50bux, so yeah, two hundred bux per night.

Gees.

Anyone had different experiences ? I feel I'm being robbed here.

Yeah thanks but I'm heading there with a 4x4 so...

It looks like if you're invited by a "friend" from Bhutan you are not considered as tourist therefore you don't pay the 200USD but only the 20bux visa.

So, I just have to befriend a Bhutanese person

Challenge accepted !

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
