Pakistan - No Carnet Required

Crossed the Iran - Pakistan border yesterday, with a Carnet, but I have a friend who works for customs, and they say it IS possible to enter without one.

You will get a (free) escort to the first town, where the car will be held in the customs yard. You are then free to explore the town. This process is repeated until you reach the exiting border.

No idea if a similar situation exists in India.

Not much fun, but if you're determined to get here without a carnet, it is possible. I saw an entry in the customs book which clearly showed someone entering last week without a carnet.

It is possible to enter into Iran without a carnet.... but for all the hassel its
quickier and easier to have one. If you are going west to east India being final
you will need a CARNET, I know first hand of traveller got into Iran after a few
days waiting at boarder, rode south to Pakistan had to wait there a few more days
and believe me Taftan is not the best place in the world to be waiting around, Pakistan
custom then put him and his Moto on a train to Lahore, he then tryed to cross into
India and guess what his moto is now held by India customs at boarder to this day i
think its stiil there....
So save your self the trouble and get the carnet you waste more time and
money farting about with customs.

Yes, of course it's a ridiculous setup, and I wouldn't recommed it, but I'm merely letting people know that it is possible - there are some people who either cannot, or will not get a carnet. With a carnet all you need to do is sign your name in a book, accept a cup of tea, and you're on your way.
